Paris M. McClainAugust 10, 1919 - January 12, 2012IVA, SCParis McDonald 'Miss Mac' McClain, age 92 of Iva, SC passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the home of her daughter.Born in Honea Path, SC, she was a daughter of the late Calvin Curtis Calhoun McDonald and Rosa Hinton McDonald. She graduated Erskine College Cum Laude in the Class of 1939 and began her 44 year teaching career as a high school Advanced Math teacher at the age of 19. During her career she attended U.S.C., Duke University and in 1975 earned a Master's Degree from Clemson University. After retirement she taught math at Anderson College and volunteered with H & R. Block. In 2004 she received the Key to Iva and in 2008 she received recognition from the SC House of Representatives for her years of service and dedication to her community and the state of South Carolina. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Iva where she served for many years as a teacher of the Lydia Sunday school Class, GA's and chaired the flower committee. She was an active member of the Shamrock Garden Club where she served as president for many years; Anderson County Council of Garden Clubs, as well as, the SC Council of Garden Clubs. She was judge emeritus of the National Accredited Judges Club of SC. She is survived by her daughter, Angela Simpson and her husband Brad of Easley, SC; one sister, Dallas M. Ashley of Anderson, SC; three grandchildren, Nicole Prohaska and her husband David of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Brad Simpson, Jr and CA Simpson both of Easley, SC; one great-granddaughter, Natalie Turner of Easley. Miss Mac was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Arthur McClain; brothers, J. C. McDonald and his wife Ruby, Senator M.E. McDonald and his wife Ann; sister, Mary Gordon and husbands, Harvey Gordon and Roy Coleman; and brother-in-law, Donald W. Ashley.The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday January 15, 2012 at 2:00PM at the First Baptist Church of Iva with the Reverend Jerry Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be her nephews Eddie McDonald, Jimmy Coleman, Roddy McDonald, Larry Ashley, Sam Milford and Brian McClain. The Shamrock Garden Club will serve as Honorary Escort. The family will be at the home of her daughter, 201 McAlister Lake Drive, Easley, SC and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, January 14, 2012 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM.Flowers are optional.
