Patricia Ann Dutney Stowell, age 75, a resident of Morningside Assisted Living, Anderson, SC, went to her Heavenly home upon her death at AnMed Health Medical Center on Saturday, June 24, 2017. Born in Johnstown, PA on November 24, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Robert Dutney and the late Jean Stein Dutney. She previously resided in Newark, DE for 35 years. For 56 years, Mrs. Stowell was the loving wife of John L. Stowell who currently resides in Southport, NC. She studied at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Delaware and received her baccalaureate degree from George Mason University in northern Virginia. She was named George Mason's finance major of the year and the Wall Street Journal's outstanding student of the year. She served as the Public Advocate for the State of Delaware under three governors. As public advocate, she represented consumers against regulated utilities. She was of the Catholic Faith. In addition to her husband, John, Pat is survived by a son, Steve Stowell and his wife Richel, of Cranberry Township, PA; a daughter, Debbie Putnam and her husband, Mark, of Anderson, SC; four sisters, Sally Powers of Racine, WI, Barb Barschow and her husband, Mike, of Pearland, TX, Donna Gossman and her husband, David, of Kokomo, IN; and Lynn Dutney of Southport, NC; and four grandchildren, Josh and Nick Putnam, and Lainie and Ethan Stowell. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stowell was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Wagner. A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Philip Gillespie officiating. A private burial will be held later at New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will be at the residence of Debbie and Mark Putnam, 1212 Phillips Road, Anderson, SC 29625, and will receive friends at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Smile Train charity.
