Patricia Ann Anderson Cox was born in 1947 to John Robert "Johnny" and Lydia Smith Anderson. She grew up in Belton, SC, and graduated from Belton High School. She attended Furman University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in History. Later, she received a Master's degree in Social Studies from Converse College. She was teaching high school in 1972 when she met her future husband, Everett C. Cox, Jr., at the University of South Carolina. Everett received a Master's degree in Engineering and relocated to Newport News, VA, to work for Dow Badische; now BASF. Patty and Everett married in early 1973, a marriage that would last for 45 years. They resided in Newport News, VA, for 20 years. Patty worked as an interpretive hostess for Colonial Williamsburg, for which she was well suited. Everett worked for BASF. Their daughter, Kathryn, was born in 1984. Soon thereafter, Patty retired from Colonial Williamsburg to focus on her family. The family was relocated to Asheville, NC, in 1993 for 4 years. In 1997, the family relocated to Anderson, SC, where they reside today. Patty is typically described as being friendly, warm, caring and kind. Wherever she lived, Patty made great, long lasting friends, and had great neighbors. She was a caregiver who took care of everyone in need. Patty possessed a strength of purpose that supported and guided her and her family through all of life's adventures. She is survived by her husband, Everett; daughter, Kathryn; brother, Sam Anderson (Carol); sister-in-law, JoAnne Anderson; niece, Debbie Culwell (Jimmy); nephew, Sammy Anderson (Toni); grand-nephew, Johnny Culwell; and grand-niece, Emmylou Anderson-Wilkes. The family will receive friends from 12-1:30pm Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at The McDougald Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow in the chapel at 2:00pm with Rev. Will Nickles officiating.
