Paul D. Gallagher, age 89, of Anderson, SC, departed his life on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.
He was a native of Charleston, WV, born October 2, 1935. Paul was a son of the late John Franklin Gallagher and the late Myrtle Hall Gallagher. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 1 brother.
Paul was a graduate of Morris Harvey College which is now known as the University of Charleston. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was stationed at both Fort Jackson and Fort Benning. During his military tenure he attended Officer Candidate School. Paul retired from FMC Chemicals and then started a second career with the State of West Virginia. He retired years later from the West Virginia Department of Environmental Services.
Paul was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Anderson where he held the office of both Elder and Deacon, sang in the choir, served on several committees, and was a member of the Men's Bible Class where he was faithful to lead the music. His church was a great joy in his life. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and the Red Cross.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Vonna Sue Glover Gallagher; sons, Paul Gregory Gallagher, of Hendersonville, NC and Scott Alan Gallagher of Anderson, SC; and many relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Anderson with Rev. Dr. Dennis Tedder and Rev. Dr. Maren Sonstegard-Spray officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Welcome Center. A private family committal service with military honors will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Anderson, 302 W. Whitner St., Anderson, SC 29624, or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
