PAUL D. GUNSALUS September 3, 1938 - October 7, 2012 Paul D. Gunsalus, age 74, of 1017 Antreville Hwy., Iva, went to his Heavenly Home on October 7, 2012, when he passed away at his residence. Born in Watervliet, NY, he was a son of the late Robert F. Gunsalus and the late Helen Boyd Gunsalus. For 40 years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Ethelynn M. Thayer Gunsalus of the residence. Mr. Gunsalus was a graduate of Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, and was a retired administrator from the Sweethaven Christian Academy in Portsmouth, VA, after 13 years of service. Paul was a member of Truth Tabernacle Baptist Church in Starr. He taught Sunday School at his church in Virginia. Among the pass times he enjoyed so much was carpentry work, cooking, working in his yard, and he loved to travel with his wife, Ethelynn. Mr. Gunsalus was a father to 3 children, but he was Dad to 6. He is survived by 2 sons, Timothy Paul Gunsalus (Marcia) of Suffolk, VA, Shane M. Bugg (Jacque) of Grand Marais, MI; 3 daughters, Deborah A. Gunsalus-Sweeney (Mike) of Shawnee, KS, Suzanne Brown of Iva, and Brenda Whitman (Dwight) of Latham, NY; 1 brother, Donald B. Gunsalus (Jewell) of Brunswick, OH; 4 sisters, Roberta McCallum (Charles) of South Hutchison, KS, Shirley Boel (Paul) of High Point, NC, Doris Gunsalus of High Point, NC, and Audrey Holmes of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; a sister-in-law, Kay Gunsalus of Mooers, NY, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gunsalus was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Doyle, and a brother Robert F. Gunsalus, Jr. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 1 PM at the McDougald Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hudson White and Rev. Chuck McCallum officiating. Interment will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens in Piedmont, SC. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday from 11 AM until 12:30 PM.
