Pauline "Polly" Beatrice Lawton Compton, age 97, of 116 Kitty Corner Circle, Iva, went to her Heavenly Home on Saturday, December 12, 2015, upon her death at Rainey Hospice House. Born on May 4, 1918, in Iva, she was the daughter of the late John Ross Lawton and the late Pearl Mauldin Lawton. For fifty-two years, she was the loving and devoted wife of the late James A. "Benny" Compton, who died in 1990. Mrs. Compton was retired from Jackson Mill after many years of employment. She was one of the oldest living members of First Baptist Church of Iva, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of Women's Missionary Society. Polly was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include a sister, Betty Jo Bickley-Adams and her husband, Ansel, of Iva. Also surviving is a nephew and primary caregiver, Danny Burdette and his wife, Candace, of Iva, and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Benny, Polly was preceded in death by three brothers, Rob, Jake, and Arthur Lawton; and seven sisters, Frances Burdette, Fannie Mae McBride, Rita Ferguson, Cleo Craft, Ruth Arnold, Cora Gray, and Martha Gray. A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Compton will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2015, at 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Gray and Rev. Charlie Howell officiating. Interment will follow at Iva City Cemetery.
