Pearl Hanks Hawkins, age 97, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Ellenburg Nursing Center.
Born in Anderson County, SC, on December 25, 1916, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Janie Saylors Hanks. Pearl was an avid reader and after losing her eyesight, The Commission For the Blind furnished her with a tape machine and books on tape, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church , where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years.
She is survived by a grandson, Damon Hawkins; a great-grandson, Lanson and his mother Michelle; a brother, Leonard Hanks and his wife Betty; and several nieces and nephews, Donnie Ray Hanks, Johnnie C. Wilson, Vicki Griffith, and Betsy Jane Donaldson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lanson Hawkins; a son, Preston and his wife, Ann; an infant son; a brother, Frank Hanks; and a sister Laura Cromer.
The Graveside Service will be held at Long Branch Baptist Church, on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Wayne Watson officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service.
The family would like to thank Morningside Assisted Living, Ellenburg Nursing Center, and Patriot Healthcare for the loving care given to Pearl.
