Obituary

Jimmy Ray "Pete" Ashworth, age 81, of Anderson, SC, devoted and dedicated husband to Jean Cahalan Ashworth for 37 years, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at his residence. Born October 9, 1939, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Joe B. Ashworth and Florence Robinson Ashworth. Pete was the former owner of Yamaha of Anderson and also worked as a plumbing supplies sales distributor. He loved his toys being a boat and M.G. car enthusiast. He was a member of the Foothills British Car Club and Carolina Cycle Riders. Pete lived a long life full of happiness and his favorite advice was, "Act like somebody." He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was a member of Crossway Community Church. In addition to his loving wife Jean, he is survived by his sons, Mark Ashworth, Craig Kinley (Lori), Kevin Kinley (Emily), and Patrick Kinley (Kristi); grandchildren, Brooks Ballentine (Kelsey), Kylie, Kortney, Chase, Cole, Kirkland, and Harrison Kinley, Baylee Slaton (Timothy), and Jamison, and Ellison Walker; great-granddaughter, Sawyer Slaton and two expected great-grandsons; his greatest joy, Lyric; brothers, Gary Ashworth (Dee), and Greg Ashworth; sisters, Joanne Thomas, and Dot Klatt; brother-in-law, Buck Marchant (Bonnie); numerous nieces and nephews; and loving care giver of Pruitt Hospice, Melinda Bridges. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Don Ashworth. Family and friends may sign the Guest Register on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, from 8:30 a.m. until Noon at The McDougald Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. C.W. Hicks officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
