Pete Banister Iva, SC Gilbert Louie Banister, Sr., age 85, went to be with his Lord on April 14, 2015. Born March 13, 1930 he was the son of the late Ira Banister and the late Ollie Baskin Banister. He had one sister, the late Evelyn Latham. Gilbert is survived by his faithful wife of 48 years, Jean Seawright Banister; a son, Louie Banister, Jr. and his son, Christopher Banister. Gilbert was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Iva, where he served as deacon and trustee. For a short time he drove the bus for the seniors of the church to go on trips. He was a dedicated member of the Iva American Legion Post 44 as long as his health permitted. Gilbert served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Gilbert's passion was hunting and fishing with his many friends. He enjoyed taking his camera along to capture all the special memories which are kept in his picture albums. Near to his heart was his little dog, Frennie, who was a faithful pet as long as she lived. The family will be at the home and will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Iva, on Friday, April 17, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend Jerry Gray and Reverend Paul Pinson officiating. The Christian Brotherhood Sunday School Class and The American Legion Post 44 will serve as the honorary escort. Interment will follow at Iva City Cemetery, with Military Honors.
