PETTY OFFICER MAURICE RAY
May 21, 1985 - June 7, 2012
Petty Officer Maurice Levon Ray, age 27, of 382 Capic Road, Anderson, SC, died on Thursday, June 7, 2012 in Bolivia, NC. He was on active duty serving in the US Navy at Camp Lejeune, NC. Born in Raleigh, NC, he was son of William Ray Tadlock and Ginger Ray-Tadlock of the residence.
Petty Officer Ray was a 2004 graduate of Berea High School in Greenville, SC, after which he attended Auburn University. He then, with the desire to serve his country, enlisted in the US Navy in 2006 and became a field medic. Since his enlistment, he has honorably served his country in Afghanistan and in other duty assignments, including Bethesda Naval Hospital, and his current duty assignment at Camp Lejeune where he is a Hospital Corpsman, and is affectionately known as "Doc." Maurice loved outdoor activities, and held a very special love for riding motorcycle, in fact was a member of the Extreme Riders Motor Cycle Club in Jacksonville, NC. He enjoyed scuba diving and parasailing which he did at any opportunity. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in 2009 with a B.S. degree.
Survivors, in addition to his mother and father, include maternal grandparents, Floyd and Shirley Ray of North Carolina; paternal grandmother, Faye Stone of North Carolina; 2 aunts, Pamela McKinnie of North Carolina and Connie Tadlock of Greenville, SC. Petty Officer Ray was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Henry and Mary Strickland.
Funeral Services to honor and celebrate Petty Officer Ray's life will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at 2 PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Navy Chaplain Lt. Dempsey Holloway officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at the M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran's Cemetery in Anderson. His friends and fellow riders will compose the honorary escort in procession. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, from 6 PM until 8 PM.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Petty Officer Ray to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
