IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Philip Daniel
Stehle
October 26, 1928 – February 25, 2024
Philip (Phil) Daniel Stehle passed away on February 25, 2024, at home in Mooresville, NC, at the age of 95. He was born on October 26, 1928, and raised in Argonia, Kansas to Henry E. and Francis E. Stehle. Phil was a veteran of WWII, having enlisted in the Marine Corp at the age of 17. He served from 1945-1948 in the Pacific, most specifically in Guam and China. In 1950 Phil married Elizabeth Mary Berger (Bette, deceased 2002). Their 52-year union produced five children: Philip Gregory (Greg), Denise Lynn Stehle-Harris (deceased 1994), Dennis Lee (deceased 2023), Pamela Sue Stehle-Hagele, and Mark Allan. Phil worked in the aircraft industry for much of his career and always loved planes and helicopters.
Phil was a long-time member of Grace Episcopal Church, Anderson, SC and more recently a member of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, Mooresville NC, where he lived with his son Mark and Daughter-in-Law Virginia (Ginny). Phil was an avid traveler, going on 27 cruises. He liked to read and was a trivia buff, appearing in a Seniors Tournament on Jeopardy where he won the first round and then lost to the eventual tournament Champion.
After Bette's death 2002, Phil married long-time family friend Helene Frechette, adding Helene's children to his family. Phil and Helene were together until Helene's passing in 2022.
In addition to his children Philip leaves behind step-children and children-in-law: Kathleen (Kathy) Stehle, George Hagele, Virginia (Ginny) McHale Stehle, Cindy Babcock Stehle, Josee Frechette-Lemire and Stephane Lemire; 10 grandchildren, and numerous great- and great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 11:00 am at Grace Episcopal Church in Anderson, SC. The committal service with military honors will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am.
Phil was a fine example of "The Greatest Generation" and will be missed by all.
