Phillip Hampton Street, a long-time resident of Atlanta, died on Monday, October 4, 2021 while on a business trip in Scottsdale, AZ. He was 61 years old. Born on November 27, 1959 to Constance Banner Street and Russell Keith Street, he grew up in Anderson, SC where he graduated from T. L. Hanna High School in 1978.
Phillip went on to attend Vanderbilt University, receiving his undergraduate degree in 1982, and his J.D. in 1986. In addition, he earned an L.L.M. degree from New York University Law School in 1989.
Phillip was a Partner in the Health Care Group of McDermott, Will & Emery based in their Atlanta office. He was previously a Partner at King & Spalding. He was a brilliant, Band 1 Chambers-ranked attorney. He was one of the most well-respected and pre-eminent practitioners in his field - a leading voice in the health law industry. Throughout his 30-year career, Phillip counseled some of the country's leading hospitals, health systems, and providers in their most pressing transactions. In doing so, he helped shape and appreciably improve healthcare delivery across the United States. He was such a valued strategic advisor, that his clients "wouldn't make a move without him".
Phillip gave generously to organizations and non-profits that he felt could make a difference in the local community and beyond. He sat on the board of the American Heart Association, Medical Assistance Programs (International NGO), Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education, Georgia Center for Medical Innovations, and Vaccine & Immunotherapy Center at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Beyond his professional expertise, Phillip was known for his genuine kindness, compassion and respect for all those around him. He greeted everyone with a warm smile and his unmistakable Southern accent, instantly drawing people in. He was thoughtful and inquisitive, and had a wry, self-deprecating sense of humor. He loved to hunt and fish, sail and travel, host large dinner parties, smoke cigars and drink scotch with his buddies. He always had a pack of friends around him. He was an incredible entertainer, often telling stories that would leave a room howling in laughter before pulling out his guitar to inspire huge, hysterical sing-alongs. Some of his best tales came from his adventures traveling the world with his fraternity brothers after undergraduate school. Phillip made friends that lasted a lifetime - he made people better in every way and his positive impact was unmistakable.
Phillip was a devoted husband and father and is preceded in death by Lisa Slay Street and Jean Marc Street. He is survived by his wife, Nan Halenza Street and his children, Conley Hampton Street, Cynthia Constance Street, and Sidney Mason Pinner. He is also survived by his parents Constance Banner Street and Russell Keith Street, his brother and sister-in-law Keith William Street and Ashley Golding Street, his nieces and nephews Hunter James Street, Sydney Banner Street and Alexander Noble Street and a much-loved and tight-knit extended family.
