ANDERSON, SC PHYLLIS R. BERGMANN Phyllis R. Bergmann, age 90, of 2203 Marchbanks Avenue, died at her residence on Thursday, April 3, 2014. Born on April 8, 1923, in Newark, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Phillip J. Rule and the late Mable Koehler Rule. For many years, she was the loving and devoted wife of the late Warren C. Bergmann until his death in 1999. After graduating from West Side High School in Newark, NJ, Phyllis worked at the Prudential Insurance Company in Newark, and sang professionally at many benefit concerts as well as with the USO. As a child she was stricken with polio and, as part of her therapy, she attended dancing school while wearing a brace. When she had mastered both ballet and tap routines, she returned to the hospitals where she had been treated and gave exhibitions to provide inspiration to other children. Mrs. Bergmann lived with her husband and son in Wayne and Clinton, NJ until retiring to Anderson in the early 80's. Both Phyllis and her husband were choir members at Central Presbyterian Church in Anderson, as well as members of the Anderson Senior Follies. She sang with the Anderson County Outreach Entertainers for 14 years. Phyllis was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she sang for many years in the choir. Survivors include one grandchild and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Warren, she was preceded in death by a son, Brian P. Bergmann; and sisters Lorraine Casey and Ronnie Klueber. The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at 1 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Ignatius Smith, OFM, officiating. Burial of the ashes will be held on a later date at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange, NJ.
