Phyllis Stewart Greene went to be with her Lord and
Savior on March 15, 2022. She was 82.
Born in Charlotte, NC, Phyllis attended Derita
Schools and at the age of 13, she gave her life to
Jesus Christ and committed herself to Him.
She graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in
1957 where she was Secretary of the Student Body,
Head Cheerleader, a Beta Club member and voted
"Most Outstanding" in her class. She furthered her
education at Trinity Bible College in Clearwater
Florida where she met the love of her life, Eddie
Greene. They were married in 1959, and dedicated
their lives together in Christian service.
They had one child, a daughter, Kristie. Phyllis was a loving
pastor's wife and served alongside her husband of
54 years in churches throughout South Carolina,
including Ruby, Bethune, Anderson, and Greenville.
Phyllis was a homemaker and worked for Furman
University for 15 years and later part-time at
McDougald Funeral home in Anderson. She and
Eddie retired to Surfside Beach, SC, and for 10
years, she was a familiar face at Lakewood
Campground in their Trading Post gift shop.
Together they enjoyed teaching in the "Good News
Club," an afterschool program for elementary
students. They were members of First Baptist
Church of Myrtle Beach.
Phyllis loved working in the yard and planting
flowers. She was very creative, had a talent for
design, and often said she would have pursued that
as a career, but knew she was meant to be a
pastor's wife. As a devoted wife and mother she
was content to stay "behind the scenes," supporting
both her daughter and husband in their pursuits.
Phyllis will be remembered for her love of Jesus
Christ and spreading His gospel, her sense of humor
and sharp wit, and her impeccable style. She is
survived by her daughter, Kristie Greene, and
granddaughter, Anna-Davis Lee, of Surfside Beach,
SC.
A graveside service will be held in celebration of her
life and to honor Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her
memory to Youth for Christ, Samaritan's Purse, or
Connie Maxwell's Children's Home.
