Obituary

Phyllis Audrey Hoffman Rotola, age 87, affectionately known as "Nana", of Anderson, SC, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at her home with her family by her side. Born May 27, 1933 and raised on a farm in Pepin, WI, she was the daughter of the late Lester Hoffman and Bernice Edblom Hoffman. Phyllis was the valedictorian of her high school class and was a graduate of the Minneapolis School of Business. She moved to New Jersey to work in an accounting firm and during her time living there met her future beloved husband, Lou. They married on March 1, 1969. Phyllis was known for her bubbly personality, great sense of humor and quick wit; all essential qualities because she never met a stranger. She loved to sing, possessed a strong faith in God and brought music and church to her family. Phyllis used her talents in the GAMAC chorale and the Chancel Choir. She was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Anderson where, along with singing in the choir, she taught music to the children, served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, volunteered with the Stephen Ministry, Rhodes Respite Care, and knitted with the prayer shawl ministry. Phyllis enjoyed serving her community as well by volunteering with Meals on Wheels. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Louis A. "Lou" Rotola, Jr.; son, Steve Rotola (Lori) of Lexington, SC; daughter, Louanne Buchanan (Bryan) of Greer, SC; grandchildren, Lauren and Matthew Rotola, and Luke Buchanan; brother, Donald Hoffman of Red Wing, MN; sister-in-law, Lucy Hoffman and her nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Willis Hoffman. The family will receive friends Friday, May 7, 2021, from12:00 pm - 1:00 pm at the new reception center of First Presbyterian Church.
