Anderson mourns the loss of Rachael Owen Witt, who died on April 6, 2017, at 88. Born on July 3, 1928, she grew up on East River Street as the youngest daughter of John and Louise Owen's four children, and later married Willie Morris Witt on September 2, 1949, beginning their 63 years of marital bliss. Making their home on Concord Avenue, they enjoyed an active life together. She was well known for her acts of care and grace, devoting herself to visiting homebound members of New Prospect Baptist Church and others. Her family, along with those she touched, can attest that her quiet goodness enriched this world. Were it not for her presence, we would all have been the poorer. She also spent many years teaching Sunday School, and participating in the Pacesetters square dancing group, traveling to venues throughout the southeast. Rachael is survived by her five children, Susan Lawson of Covington, Georgia, Bill Witt of Knoxville, Tennessee, Michael Witt (Laura), Mary Lou Seel (Tim), and Becky Campbell (Perry), all of Anderson; twelve grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. All wish to express their heartfelt appreciation for the kindness and care showered upon her by the staff at The Garden House and Morningside Assisted Living, along with her attentive sitters, Eva Keese, Chestine Humphrey, Gloria Fields, Ethelrene Earle, and Seketha Dotson. The family will be at the home of Michael Witt, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, April 9, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Rachael's life will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, April 10, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tom Turner, and Rev. Bob Parker officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
