Gettys, age 89, formerly of 714 Timberlake Road, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Summit Place.Born in York, SC on June 10, 1919, he was a son of the late Joseph Edward Gettys and Mary Hope Gettys. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. In addition, he retired from Plantation Pipeline as an Area Supervisor. Mr. Gettys and his late wife, Johnnie Hillhouse Freeman Gettys, attended Mountain Creek Baptist Church.Survivors include his children: Mary Ann Bryant of Richmond, VA, and John R. Gettys of Abbeville, AL; three grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Ed Gettys.A Graveside Service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, January 11, 2009, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by the Reverend Richard Burton.
