SEELAPRIL 25, 1923 - NovemBER 30, 2010Ralph Geelmuyden Seel, age 87, of Anderson, died Tuesday, November 30, at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he also resided in Scotland, Anderson and Florida. He was the son of Reidar Geelmuyden Seel and Anna Elizabeth Roll. He was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy and received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rutgers College. Long active in corporate innovation, he held positions with the Singer Company as manufacturing manager in Elizabeth, NJ, transferring to Clydebank, Scotland where he spent five years planning and implementing a major consolidation and modernization program. In 1971, he relocated to Anderson, SC, where he was operations manager, retiring in 1979 after a 34 year career. Ralph held a US Patent in 1981 for a motor mount locking device for sewing machines. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, living his faith by example and teaching his children in prayer. His Christian lifestyle and beliefs were passed on to his children through his daily actions. He and his deceased wife, Eugenia Steinke Seel, had been married 57 years and loved Scottish country dancing together. Ralph loved music and singing to the oldies. He was a wonderful Father and Grandfather, taking his family on Summer vacation road trips. He enjoyed building porches, decks, and tree houses. Ralph leaves behind a daughter, Lauren Christine Shilling and husband, Byron Edwin Shilling of Pickens, SC; a daughter, Kristine Anne Yon and husband, Joseph W. Yon, Jr. of Pendleton, SC; a son, Karl Norman Seel and wife, Nita Barrow Seel of Easley, SC; and a daughter, Debra Kyle Hadner and husband, Edmond Anton Hadner of Clermont, FL. He was the proud Grandfather to Hayley Nicole Shilling, Madison, WI, Mark Hayden Shilling, Conway, SC, James Reider Yon, Charleston, SC, Justin Watson Yon, Seattle, WA, Kurt Anton Hadner, Clermont, FL, and Katrin Elizabeth Hadner of Clermont, FL. He was the Great Grandfather of Hayden Dargan Shilling of Conway, SC. Ralph was preceded in death by his brother, Norman Geelmuyden Seel of Dallas, TX; and a sister, Althea Kathryn Paul of Gainesville, FL.A service will be held at his church in Anderson, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, at 11:00 am on Friday, December 3. A green burial will follow at the Ramsey Creek Preserve located in Westminster, SC.
