Ralph Lawrence Whitman, 84, husband of Charline L. (Shepardson) Whitman, passed away at his home on Friday, September 29, 2017. Born in New Salem, MA, he was the son of Loton E. Whitman and Blanche B. Whitman. A graduate of North Brookfield (MA) High School, Mr. Whitman served in the U.S. Army, and then pursued a career as a construction supervisor. He was a lifelong farmer and loved to drive his team of horses. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charline; as well as his brother, Roy Kent Whitman of Keene, NH; son, Michael Whitman and wife Gina of Anderson, SC; son, James Whitman and wife, Sherri, of Arcadia, FL; daughter, Crystal Whitman Neel and husband Michael of Brownwood, TX; plus seven grandchildren; Ekaterina Whitman Lauver, Nicole Whitman, Benjamin Whitman, Kelly Whitman, Rebecca Whitman, Sydney Neel and Cooper Neel. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Whitman and his brother, LaForest Whitman. The funeral service with military honors will be at 11:00 am, Sunday, October 1, 2017 in the Chapel at The McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor James H. Baker of Welch Creek Baptist Church, Walterboro, SC. A private burial will take place at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
