Randy Gene Merritt, age 69, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Oconee County, SC on December 5, 1946, he was the son of the late T.S. Merritt and the late Lois Kerr Merritt. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a helicopter mechanic in the Vietnam War where he was part of the 1st Relief Troop sent to Vietnam. He worked as an automotive mechanic and later retired. Randy truly loved his church, Victory Baptist, where he was a very active member. He is survived by his loving wife, Sybil Smith Merritt; sons, Brian (Jodi) and Brad (Amy) Merritt both of Anderson; sister, Pat Cox of Mauldin; grandchildren, Kyle (Cassidy), Jacob, and Wyatt Merritt; and great-grandson, Waylon Merritt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Merritt. The funeral service will be held at Victory Baptist Church on Monday, October 24, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Herbert Moore and Pastor Sam Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran's Cemetery. The family will be at the residence, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, October 23, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted.
