Real Robert "Ray" Arel, 93, of Anderson, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2016. Born in Biddeford, ME on December 20, 1922, he was the son of the late Ovide and Emma Arel. He retired from Platt Saco Lowell in Easley, SC as the Director of Engineering after 42 years of service. He and his wife Joan were very involved with Meals on Wheels in Anderson, SC delivering meals for over 30 years. Ray was also a member of the "Dirty Old Men" group from Pine Lakes Country Club that helped to raise funds for the Meals on Wheels organization. He was also a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served as a B-25 pilot. Ray was also very proud of attending the University of Alabama. He is survived by his wife of the home, Joan Arel, two daughters; Betsy Pearson (Robby) of Easley, SC and Brenda Hovis (Randy) of Belton, SC., one son; David Arel (Jill) of Maine, one sister; Irene Caron of Anderson, SC and one grandson, Shannon Arel of Maine. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Arel. The Memorial Service to honor the life of Ray will be held on Friday, November 25th at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the McDougald Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Greene officiating The family will be at the residence and will receive friends following the memorial service at the funeral home on Friday.
