Douglas Ray Hanks, age 50, of 534 Farmer Street, Starr, went to his Heavenly home on Friday, October 27, 2017, upon his death at Emory University Hospital in Decatur, GA with his loving family by his side. Born in Anderson on May 11, 1967, he was the son of Doug and Diane Latham Hanks of Iva. For twenty-eight years he was the devoted husband of Karen Powell Hanks of the residence. Ray attended Crescent High School and he was employed in the construction industry as a welder prior to going on medical disability in 2008. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. In addition to his parents and his wife, Karen, Ray is survived by a son, Stephen Hanks and his wife, Stephanie, of Starr; a sister, Renea Hanks of Iva; a mother and father-in-law, Doyle and Pat Powell of Starr; also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many additional extended family and friends. Ray will surely be missed by all who knew and loved him. The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 30, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Pastor John Davis officiating. Interment will follow at the Iva City Cemetery.
