Ray F. Lowery, age 87, of 2312 Hanna Rd., Anderson, SC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 7, 2022. Born in Oconee County, SC, he was the son of the late M.C. "Carmon" Lowery and Cora Roach Lowery of Walhalla, SC. He was one of nine children. He attended Walhalla High School. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Anderson, SC. Mr. Lowery entered the insurance business at age 18 in Anderson with Liberty Life Insurance Co. He retired at age 56 in Fayetteville, NC with Peoples Security Insurance Co. as agency manager. During his long and very successful career, he held the position of agent, staff manager, district manager, general agent, agency manager, and home office special training consultant, and was an active member of the Life Insurance Underwriters Association. In his younger years, he was an avid small game hunter. He loved to raise and train Beagle dogs for hunting. He especially loved to hear the voices of the dogs as they chased rabbits. He was an avid gardener and loved to work in his yard. He was always an avid golfer before he lost his health and had achieved a handicap index of 1.8. He was an expert on the rules of golf. After his retirement he worked as a rules official on the East coast for mini tours where young professional golfers were working their way to the PGA Tour. He also worked NCAA college tournaments. He is survived by his three sons, twins, Boyce F. Lowery (Diana) of Salt Lake City, UT and R. Barry Lowery (Taffy) of Travelers Rest, SC, and Dale Lowery (Lisa) of Landrum, SC; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one sister, Lizzette R. Harrison of South Baston, VA; and two brothers, Ralph W. Lowery of Westminster, SC, and Randall Lowery of Mt. Rest, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys S. Lowery; three sisters, Margie L. Butts, Grace L. Durham, and Maude L. Reeves; and two brothers, Milton Lowery and Robert F. Lowery. The family will receive friends Monday, April 11, 2022, from 10:30-12:00 pm at Temple Baptist Church, 2905 Standridge Rd., Anderson, SC 29625. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm with Dr. Steve Hurte officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
