Ray McConnell Iva, SC Franklin Ray McConnell, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Antreville, SC, on December 4, 1932, he was the son of the late James Marion McConnell and the late Bessie Louise Bell McConnell. He retired from the Duke Power, Oconee Nuclear Station after 25 years of service. Ray was a sports enthusiast and coached various children's sports teams. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple and of F&AM Masonic Lodge #238 in Iva, SC. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Martha Messer McConnell; a son, Monty McConnell and his wife Susan, of Marietta, SC; six grandchildren, Ethan, Noah, Carleigh, Simon, Emmalyn, and Susanna; a brother, Truman McConnell, of Anderson, SC; and a sister, Sara Higgenbotham and her husband Ed, of Iva, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Ray McConnell; and five brothers and three sisters. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home, with the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Masonic Rites. Flowers are optional, or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas PL, Memphis, TN 38105.
