Raymond Gary Whitten, age 77, of Anderson, SC, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born September 21, 1944, in Anderson, he was the son of the late Raymond Carl Whitten and Ruby Nell Hunnicutt Bruce. He was married for 49 years to Jean Whitten until her death in April 2013. Gary was retired from Owens Corning and was a member of Orrville Baptist Church. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, go-kart racing, and old cars and loved spending time with his family and grand dog Freckles. He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Brewster of Anderson; grandson, Justin Brewster; brother, Sammy Whitten (Dot) of Anderson; and sister, Brenda Stephens (Mitchell) of Anderson. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Steve Whitten, Marion "Tooter" Whitten; and Raymond Carl Whitten, Jr. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 7, 2021 from 12:30-2:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Broadus Moody and Rev. Larry Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery.
