Robert Edward Coombs, age 95, of Anderson, SC, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Morningside of Anderson. Born August 27, 1927, in Lenoir County, NC, he was the son of the late Lloyd Zane Coombs and Kate Farrior Coombs. He was married for 75 years to Ola B. Coombs until her death on August 17, 2021. He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Dale Coombs; and his siblings. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. R.E. and his family settled in Townville in 1978, having moved from Florida. He was a carpenter by trade and was retired from Anderson School District Five. He was a volunteer fireman with Double Springs Volunteer Fire Department and a mason. He is survived by his son, Darrell Coombs (Penny); daughter, Dianna Bevins (Fred); 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 12:30-1:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Weldon Gosnell officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
