Rebecca Salley Castles, 93, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal life on Thursday, July 2, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Rececca was born January 17, 1933, in Orangeburg, SC, daughter of the late Charles Harvin Salley and Ruth Kull Salley. She attended Winthrop University and the University of South Carolina where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She remained an avid Gamecock fan throughout her life.
Rebecca was a homemaker and devoted mother who also loved golf, collecting antiques, needlework, and volunteering as a member of the Anderson Junior Assembly (later known as the Junior League of Anderson County). Her love of golf led her to encourage her two grandsons to play the game from an early age, eventually leading both to careers as golf coaches. Rebecca was a member of Grace Episcopal Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years.
In addition to her parents, Rebecca was predeceased by her first husband Daniel Lyles Castles, her second husband Paul Frank Haigler, her son Daniel Lyles Castles, Jr., her daughter Thyra Elizabeth Castles, and her son-in-law John Russell Robinson.
Rebecca is survived by her daughters Charlotte Ruth Castles of Columbia and Rebecca Castles Robinson of Charleston; her grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as "BeBe," Elizabeth Monteith Sharpe (Clay), Sarah Monteith Rama (Michael), Daniel Lyles Castles III (Natalie), and Austin Lever Castles (Megan); and her great grandchildren Campbell, Charlie, and Sazy Sharpe, Walter, Salley, and Teddy Rama, Lyles and Jonah Castles, and Cora and Camden Castles.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Grace Episcopal Church, 711 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC, at 11:00 am with The Reverend John B. (Jack) Hardaway, IV officiating. Burial will be at Old Silver Brook Cemetery, 1405 White Street, Anderson, SC, following the service.
Pallbearers are Daniel Castles, Austin Castles, Clay Sharpe, and Michael Rama.
The family is deeply grateful for the support and care of the staff of Wellmore Daniel Island and especially for the exceptional loving care provided by Soffey Keith.
Memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 711 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC.
