WALKERFEBRUARY 18, 1918 - NOVEMBER 27, 2010ANDERSON, SC ' Rebecca Shirley Walker, 92, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010, at AnMed Health Medical Center. She was the widow of William N. Walker and resided in Stonewall Woods.She was born in Anderson on February 18, 1918, to the late Dr. James B. and Vera Spoon Shirley and was an honor graduate of Girls High Class of 1935; Anderson University; and Erskine College, AB 1939.Surviving are daughters, Sandra Harper and husband, Gary, and Jan (John W.) Sullivan; grandson, Chris N. Sullivan and wife, Sissa; and great-granddaughters: Blakely and Brady Sullivan. Also surviving is her brother, James L. Shirley of St. Simon's Island, GA. She was preceded in death by son-in-law, John W. (Johnny) Sullivan.A lifelong member of the First Baptist Church, she served as President of the WMU; taught in the Children's Department; and served in the Adult Department, starting the Rebecca Sunday School Class, which she taught for fifty years.She was a member and former president of the Electric City Garden Club and a former president of the Anderson Garden Club Council. She was a GCSC Life Member and a NGC Life Member, and a Nationally Accredited Gardening Consultant.Known affectionately as the 'Rose Lady' for her large rose garden with over 275 bushes, which she shared with friends and neighbors, and exhibited in many flower shows, winning many awards.She was a former member and Regent of the Hudson Berry DAR Chapter and a former president of the Progressive Study Club.The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Scowcroft and his staff and Dr. Stuart Barnes and his staff for their many years of special care. Special thanks and appreciation are extended to her beloved and faithful caregiver and friend, Carol Teasley.The family will receive friends from 1pm until 2pm on Monday, November 29, at The McDougald Funeral Home, 2211 North Main Street, Anderson. The Funeral Service conducted by Dr. James R. Thomason will follow in the Chapel at 2pm. A private committal service will be held in Old Silver Brook Cemetery.Family members are at their respective homes.No flowers please. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of the First Baptist Church, 307 South Manning Street, Anderson, SC 29624, or to Haven of Rest Ministries, P.O.
