The McDougald Funeral Home2211 North Main StreetAnderson, SC 29621864-224-4343OBITUARYWith Flag Reese McMahan, Jr. September 14, 1925 - December 26, 2009Iva, SC ' Reese McMahan Jr., age 84, of 512 Barnes Station Road, husband of Frances Elizabeth Newby McMahan, passed away on December 26, 2009, at Willow Creek Living Center in Iva.Born in Iva, SC, on September 14, 1925, he was the son of the late Reese McMahan and Ila Elkansas Ethridge McMahan. He was a graduate of Iva High School, Class of 1942. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. McMahan worked in textiles for many years, over thirty-three years in management and supervision, at the Jackson Mill, J. P. Stevens Company, and Greenwood Mills. He also worked at Perry Correctional.He was presently a member of Union Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was formerly a member of the Good Hope Presbyterian Church of Iva, SC, where he was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, chairman of the Budget Committee and a choir member. He had many civic activities: Past Commander of Post 44 American Legion of Iva; Past President of the Iva Lyons Club; served on the executive committee of the Blue Ridge Council of Boy Scouts; served as a trustee on the Board of the Rehabilitation Center; served as a Trustee of United Way.Survivors include his wife, Frances McMahan, of the home; sons: Ronnie McMahan and his wife Brenda, Michael Wayne McMahan and his wife, Lynn, all of Iva, daughters: Cathy Sue Smith and her husband ,Glenn of Anderson, Cynthia Lynn Watson and her husband, Arthur of Iva; one brother: Jack McMahan and his wife, Helen of Greenville, SC.; and sisters: Aileen M. Alexander of Iva, and Dorothy M. Simpson of Anderson; eight grandchildren: Jeffery McMahan (Selina), Shelia M. McGee (Phillip),Rhonda M. Pruitt (Terry), Allison C. Fountain (Brian), Stephanie McMahan, Whitney Smith, Audrey Watson, Greg Smith (step grand child); five great-grandchildren: Brittany McMahan, Cody McMahan, Clayton McGee, Bailey Fountain, Garrett Pruitt.The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at 2 pm at Union Baptist Church, Iva, SC, conducted by the Reverend Ronnie Powell, Reverend Curtis Edison, and Reverend Jim Osteen. Mr. McMahan will be placed in the Church one hour prior to the service.
