Stephen Michael Cothran, age 64, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson, SC on February 3, 1951, he was the son of the late Herman Cothran and the late Marguerite Wilson Cothran. He graduated from Anderson College, in1971, with an Associate of Arts Degree, Clemson University, in 1974, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, and Trinity Theological Seminary, in 1979, with a Master of Divinity Degree. He surrendered to preach at the age of 17, in 1968 and was ordained in 1973 by North Anderson Baptist Church. During his ministry he pastored several churches, including Refuge Baptist Church, Wolf Stake Baptist Church, Brushy Creek Baptist Church, Bethel Baptist Church, Freedom Fellowship Church, and currently the pastor of New Testament Baptist Church. He also spent several years as an evangelist proclaiming God's word. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Carol Greene Cothran; his children, Stephen M. Cothran, Jr., of Anderson, SC and Rita Fowler and her husband Danny, of Powdersville, SC; his step-children, Daniel Roberts and his wife Debbie, of Supply, NC, Matthew Roberts, and his wife Beth, of Shelby, NC, and Jordan Roberts, and his wife Ciela, of Kernersville, NC; a brother, Ricky Cothran, of Sandy Springs, SC; a sister, Janet Lynn Bannister, of Sandy Springs, SC; six grandchildren, Michael and Olivia Cothran, Lauren and Landon Fowler, and Brantley and Amaya Roberts; and his loving companion, his dog, Bentley. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Larry Pearson and Reverend Mark Pollard officiating. Interment will follow at Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at 308 Plantation Pt. Anderson, SC 29625 and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, August 15, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted.
