Rev. Leroy Hayes Anderson, SC Rev. Eldon Leroy Hayes, age 93, husband of Florene Anthony Hayes, passed away, Thursday, February 6, 2014 at his residence. Born in Pickens, SC, he was the son of the late Walter Perry Hayes, Sr. and the late Effie Sue Dodgens Hayes. He earned his Masters of Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Reverend Hayes proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II, stationed in Italy and Africa. He retired from Union Baptist Church after 33 years of serving as Pastor and holds the title of Pastor Emeritus. He served in numerous ministries at other churches and at the state and local levels of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Anderson. He was an avid gardener and fisherman. In addition to his loving wife, of 72 years, he is survived by his children, Charles Hayes and his wife Vivian, of Iva, SC, Reverend Jerry Hayes and his wife Jane, of Anderson, SC and Joan Ellison and her husband Don, of Williamston, SC; a sister, Sara Reese; 11 grandchildren, Melanie Mize, Jeremy Holtzclaw, Charis Richey, Chas Hayes, John Michael Hayes, Adam Hayes, Joshua Hayes, David Hayes, Niki Cox, Casey Cromer and Lori Norris and 27 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Childs and a brother, Walter Perry Hayes, Jr. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church with Reverend Mike McMillion and Reverend Danny Burnley officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with Military Honors. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Flowers are optional.
