Hugh Augustus McAlister, age 78, husband of Betty Lawrence McAlister of 3619 Whitehall Road, Anderson, SC, died Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at the AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson, SC.Born in Anderson, SC on September 5, 1927, Rev. McAlister was the son of the late Paul McAlister and Eva Black McAlister. He was a minister for more than 40 years and served various churches as interim pastor and teacher and retired as pastor of Central Baptist Church in Anderson. He was a United States Army Korean War Veteran and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, Three Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a member of Asbury Baptist Church. Rev. McAlister was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed by all the many people who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Betty Lawrence McAlister of the home; a daughter, Sandra M. Vickery and her husband, Billy of Anderson, SC; a granddaughter, Kristie Conwell; a grandson, Billy Grant Vickery; two great-grandsons, Donovan Conwell and Bryson Vickery, all of Anderson, SC; brother, Charles McAlister; three sisters, Catherine Taylor, Eunice Aiken and Betty McLeese. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Wilbanks McAlister, five brothers, Paul, Clarence, Calvin, James, Gene and one sister, Evelyn Coster. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 10, 2006 at 11:30 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Dr. Kenneth Hood, Rev. Delano McMinn and Rev. David Sheriff. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Anderson with military honors by the Upstate Veterans Honor Guards.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, March 9, 2006 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.The family will be at the home of his daughter, Sandra Vickery, 210 Green Pond, Anderson, SC.Flowers are optional.
