Reverend Jesse Wilson Atkins, age 100 years and 4 months, of Belton, SC, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home. Born February 23, 1921, in Rock Hill, SC, he was the son of the late Lawrence Atkins and Ruby McKettham Atkins Shaw. He was married for 70 years to Nellie Mae Davis Atkins until her death in 2006. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Naaman E. Atkins, Herman M. Atkins, George W. Atkins, and James B. Atkins. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Rev. Atkins was a veteran of the United States Army and Navy and served during WWII. Rev. Atkins became a minister in 1946 and had been serving the Lord faithfully. He had pastored all over the United States and loved going to church and visiting members with his wife prior to her death. Rev. Atkins was a member of Martin's Grove Emmanuel Holiness Church. He is survived by sisters in law, Betty Brooks, Mildred Steadman, and Ruby Skelton; and nieces, Margaret Wiswell, Debra Burton, Becky Brown, and Hazel Atkins. The family will receive friends Monday, June 28, 2021, from 1:00-2:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 2:30 pm with Brother Prickett and Brother Richardson officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cross Hill Church of God, 1703 Highway 252, Belton, SC 29627.
