Obituary

Reverend Linda Blessing October 24, 1939 - June 9, 2012 Mt. Airy, NC. The Rev. Linda Blessing, 72, of Mt. Airy went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 9. She was born in Anderson on Oct. 24, 1939, to Jim and Lorraine Blessing. She was a graduate of Hanna High School and Lander University. Rev. Blessing taught school on military bases in Germany, Spain and Turkey after which she enrolled in Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta and was ordained in the Presbyterian Church, PCUSA. She served Cohutta Presbyterian Church in Cohutta, Ga. And moved to Mt. Airy in 1982, where she served Flat Rock Presbyterian Church. She later served as associate pastor with her husband at Hills and Pine Ridge Presbyterian churches in Pilot Mountain. She also served Dinwiddie and Fairview Presbyterian churches in Hillsville and the Fellowship Church in Ararat, Va. until her retirement. Since her retirement she had served as volunteer chaplain at Northern Hospital in Mt. Airy. Surviving are her husband, Rev. Jim Mauldin of Mt. Airy; her mother, Lorraine Blessing of Anderson; her sister and brother-in-law, Tissie and Jack Watson of Anderson; her nephews and wives, PJ and Melissa Watson, and Matt and Leigh Watson, all of Mt. Pleasant; and her niece, Meg Watson of Charleston; three great nephews, Jackson, Gardner, and Perry Watson; aunts and uncles, Peggy and Jim Bickley of Marietta, Ga., Norman and Frances Sosebee of Canton, Ga.; and many special cousins. Memorial Services will be held Sunday at Gallant Chapel of First Presbyterian Church at 11:30 in Anderson and at Fellowship Church in Ararat, Va. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 302 W. Whitner St, Anderson SC 29624 or to Fellowship Church PO Box 80, Ararat, Va. 24053.
