Reverend Jimmie Creighton Gaines, age 89, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, July 8, 2016 at NHC of Anderson. Born in Greenville, SC on January 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Jay B. and Callie Gaines. Reverend Gaines was a pastor for over 40 years. He loved the opportunity to lead others to the Lord. He served in the following churches: Eastside Baptist Church, Friendship Baptist Church, Good Hope Baptist Church, Central First Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Anderson, Garner Memorial Baptist Church, Cedar Grove Baptist Church, and Tabernacle Baptist Church. He also served as interim pastor of many churches in the surrounding area. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in WWII and attended Furman University. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, The John McLees Sunday School Class, and the Prospectors. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Fannie Reeves Gaines; two sons, Richard Gaines (Shirley) and Terry Gaines (Jamie) both of Anderson; a daughter, Cynthia Callahan (Gene) of Anderson; and one grandson, Zach Gaines of Myrtle Beach. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, J.B. Gaines Jr. and Jack Gaines. The celebration of Reverend Gaines life will be held at New Prospect Baptist Church on Monday, July 11, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Tony Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the home of Richard and Shirley Gaines at 1402 Kimberly Rd., Anderson, SC and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, July 10 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff at Morningside Assisted Living and NHC of Anderson for the loving care that Reverend Gaines and the family received.
