GRAY JONESMARCH 16, 1914 - AuguST 8, 2010ANDERSON, SC ' The Reverend Edwin Gray Jones, Jr., age 96, passed on Sunday, August 8, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House.Born in Anson County, NC, on March 16, 1914, he was a son of the late Edwin Gray Jones, Sr., and Susan Myers Jones. He was a 1938 graduate of Wake Forest College and a 1941 graduate of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He pastored Baptist churches in Littleton, NC; Grassy Pond in Gaffney; Crossroads in Hartwell, GA; and three churches in Anderson: Lebanon, North Anderson, and Centerville, where he was the founding pastor.He also bred and raised AKC Field Champion Beagles and was a founder of the Iodine State Beagle Club in Spartanburg, SC. Many also knew of his love for watchmaking and repair which he enjoyed well into his 90's. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson. At the time of his death, he was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Anderson, and as long as his health permitted he was active in the Don Latham Sunday School Class.The Reverend Jones was married to the late Ruby Pauline Beck Jones; the late Thelma Ponder Jones; and Beatrice Barfield Glazener Jones. In addition to his wife, Bea, he is survived by sons: Lt. Col. Edwin G. Jones, III, USAF Ret. (Elizabeth) of Santa Maria, CA; and CW4 Robert C. Jones, USA Ret. (Renee) of Apollo Beach, FL; and daughters: Martha Jean Jones of Grand Junction, CO; and Peggy Jones Swalwell (Bradley) of Hockessin, DE; daughter-in-law, Emma W. Jones of Memphis, TN; stepdaughter, Diane Glazener Hicks (Kenneth) of Anderson, SC; stepson, Stephen H. Glazener (Tracey) of Stockbridge, GA; twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, John Richard Jones; and a stepson, William D. Glazener, Jr.The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 11, at Concord Baptist Church, Anderson, conducted by the Reverend Dr. Don R. Cox and the Reverend Dr. James R. Thomason. A Committal Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, August 11, at Grassy Pond Baptist Church, Gaffney, conducted by the Reverend Terry Lanford.The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am prior to the service on Wednesday at Concord Baptist Church.
