Main StreetAnderson, SC 29621OBITUARYFLAGREVEREND RUFUS MITCHELL, SR.May 2, 1912 - June 4, 2006ANDERSON,SCReverend Rufus Mitchell, Sr., age 94, husband of Willie Mae Mitchell, formerly of 2801 Bellview Road, died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at the Abbeville Nursing Home.Born in Greenville, SC, on May 2, 1912, he was a son of the late William Mitchell and Vester Moore Mitchell. Reverend Mitchell was in the ministry for 65 years and was a retired Evangelist, former pastor of the Gluck Mill Baptist Church in Anderson and Augusta Highway Baptist Church in Greenwood. He was a graduate of Furman University and was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple. He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Mitchell of Abbeville; sons, Rufus Mitchell, Jr., and his wife, Martha and Billy Mitchell and his wife, Jeanette, all of Anderson, SC, Jack Mitchell and his wife, Shirley of Greenwood, SC; a daughter, Betty Moon and her husband, Haskell of Anderson; son-in-law, Tommy Holliday of Central, SC; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Holliday; brothers, Otto Mitchell and Eugene Mitchell and sisters, Ruth Hollingsworth, and Dr. Beulah Satterfield.The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 4:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Bill Ellison, Rev. Alvin Hodges and Rev. Sam Duncan. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Anderson.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.The family will be at the home of his daughter, Betty Moon, 2803 Bellview Road, Anderson, SC.Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Upstate SC Chapter, 521 N.
