Aug. 22, 1919 - Sept. 5, 2009INMAN, SCReverend James Walter Terry, Jr., age 90, husband of the late Inez Harris Terry, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009 at Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg.Born in Iva, SC on August 22, 1919, he was a son of the late James Walter Terry, Sr., and Bessie Manning Terry. He was a United States Army World War II veteran and entered the ministry in 1947. He was an ordained Bishop of the Church of God and served 18 churches in South Carolina and one in New Mexico. He was superintendent and served on the board for the Church of God Home for Children. He also served on the State Evangelism and State Ministerial Boards. Rev. Terry was a member of Praise Cathedral Church of God in Greer.Survivors include his daughter, Emily Terry Hatchell and her husband, Franklin Hatchell, Sr., of Campobello, son, James Edwin Terry and his wife, Murphy of Norman, OK; four grandchildren, Angela Huerta, F. Lanier Hatchell, Jr., Chris Patterson and Rev. James Hatchell; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Ellen Darling of San Bruno, CA and half-brother, J. C. Terry of Starr. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his step-mother, Ludie Terry; brothers, Waymon, Jake and Charles Terry; sisters Callie Mae Hicks and Marie Kilgore Smith; half-brothers, Floyd and Melvin Terry; half-sisters, Edna Carey, Caro Reynolds, Nettie Terry and Louise Terry and a granddaughter, Sherry Ann Terry.The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Dr. Leon Parker, Rev. James Shealy and Rev. Bobby Johnson. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Reverend Terry's nephews will serve as pallbearers.
