IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard H. "Dicky"
Anderson
November 21, 1939 – December 10, 2023
Richard Harrison Anderson, age 84, of Anderson, SC, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Rainey Hospice House.
Born November 21, 1939, in Anderson, SC, he was the third of four sons of the late Hampton Gustavus Anderson, Jr. and Alice Allen Anderson. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Bannister Allen "Ban" Anderson.
Dicky was a graduate of Boys High Class of 1957, a graduate of Clemson University Class of 1961, and a proud veteran of the United States Army. While attending Clemson, he played football for coach Frank Howard and lettered in track under coach Banks McFadden. He, along with his brothers, were the owners and operators of Anderson Auto Parts which was started by their father in the early 1940's. He was also the owner and president of Automotive Parts Distributors until his retirement in 2001. Dicky was a true man of faith and servant of Christ, including being an active member of Central Presbyterian Church where he served as a youth advisor, deacon, elder, and a long-time teacher of the Koinonia Sunday School Class.
His family loved waterskiing and competed across the nation for over 40 years with all five of them spending countless long weekends each summer traveling and staying together in a RV. He personally skied tournaments into his 60's, while setting state and regional records and also winning multiple medals at the national championships. He also enjoyed gardening, tennis and was an avid Clemson Tigers fan. Dicky was the epitome of a family man with he and Elsie being the most dedicated supporters and attendees of all their children's and grandchildren's activities.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Elsie Marchbanks Anderson; sons, Rick Anderson, Jr. (Susan) and Clark Anderson (Lisa); daughter, Kathy Fant (David); brothers, Hampton "Hamp" Anderson, III, and Bobby Anderson (Mimi); sister-in-law, Vicki Anderson; grandchildren, Morgan Condon (Pat), Mariana Varner (Will), David Fant (Allie), Daniel Fant (Kate), Lauren Kirkland (Tyler), and Addie Anderson; great grandchildren, Andy and Elsie Condon.
