Richard Lee Bunch, 80, died on April 4, 2018 as a result of Parkinson's Disease. Formerly of Huntington, West Virginia, he was a graduate of Marshall University, where he played football, and of the United States Navy Officer Candidate School. After moving to South Carolina in 1970, he worked in management for several SC and NC textile firms before launching his own successful executive placement and textile machinery business, from which he retired in 2008. He was a loving husband to his wife of 39 years and the kind of father that made each of his children secretly suspect that they were his favorite. He is survived by his wife, Diana Lacey Bunch, and his three children, Richard Lee Bunch, Jr. and his wife, Julia; Jill Elaine Bunch and her husband, Anthony A. Schmidt; and Miles Randolph "Randy" Bunch and his wife, Terri. He was a great Papa who rode horses, fished, attended band concerts and went to football games with his grandchildren, Christin Elaine Shore, Caroline Elizabeth Brooks, Maggie Virginia Bunch Barnett, Collin Lee Bunch, Payton Ellis Bunch, Haley Pearson Lang and Brandon Dean Pearson. He also had three great-grandchildren, Zoie Lynn and Beckett Chase Pearson, and Avereigh Reese Shore. He coached his sons, grandsons, and scores of other Pendleton boys in Little League football and was quietly generous to members of the community throughout his life. His friends and loved ones will agree that his kind heart, considerable intelligence, and unfailing sense of humor made him "a prince, a scholar, and a compound of frolic and fun" who will be sorely missed. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday, April 5, 2018 at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Friday at the funeral home with Rev. David Kay officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the home of Randy and Terri at 12 United Avenue, Pendleton, SC.
