December 10, 1931 - June 15, 2012 Richard C. Burnette, Sr., age 80, husband of the late Hazel Strickland Burnette, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2012 at AnMed Health Care Center. Born in Royston, GA, Mr. Burnette was a son of the late Bert Davis and the late Ruby Brooks Whitfield. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a medic. Being a truck driver, for 42 years, he retired from Am-Can. He then became a Park Ranger for Carolina Landing in Fairplay, SC. Mr. Burnette attended Gap Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include sons, Joe Rodney Stewart of Anderson, Richard C. Burnette, Jr. of Fort Hood, TX; daughter Cathy Burnette Chamblee of Anderson; brother, William Davis of TX; sister, Sue Roe of Anderson; brother-in-law, Larry Strickland; seven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. In addition to his parents and loving wife, Hazel, he was predeceased by brothers, Jack Davis, Roy Davis, and Wayne Whitfield and a grandson, Richard Matthew Cheek. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Dr. Boyce Whitman. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors. The family is at the residence, 602 Cheyenne Street, Anderson and will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, June 17 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Flowers are optional.
