Richard L. Hayes, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at his residence after months of failing health, with his beloved wife, Loretta, by his side. Born in Iva, SC, on January 26, 1942, he was the son of the late R. C. Hayes and Eula Bell Hayes. Richard is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Loretta Rhoads Hayes, of the home; a daughter, Kathy Lynn Hayes Grogan and her husband, Mike, of Anderson; two sons, Steve L. Hayes of Columbia, SC, and Richie L. Hayes, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Belton; a sister, Juanita Saxon of Anderson; three brothers, Edgar and Tony Hayes, both of Anderson; Roy Hayes and his wife, Cathy, of Lake Secession; also surviving are six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Hayes; and a sister, Virginia Hayes. Mr. Hayes was employed in the textile industry where he retired from Orr-Lyons Mill after twenty years of employment. Richard was a devoted NASCAR fan. He attended Asbury Baptist Church for as long as his health permitted. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, December 15, 2018, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Richard Hayes will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Delennon Stowe officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers include Andrew Grogan, Nathan Wentz, Jerry Albertson, Joey Lufty, Nicholas Hayes, and A. J. Hayes.
