Richard John Smith, age 78, of Anderson, SC, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House.

Born July 31, 1945, in Lavonia, GA, he was the son of the late John B. Smith and Gladys Farmer Smith. He was married for 52 years to Lenda Ann Shaw Smith until her death in 2015. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Durham.

Richard was a veteran of the National Guard. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his sons, Raymond V. Smith (Kimberly Fletcher Smith); J. Mike Smith (Denise Rogers Smith); 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Dwight Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 am until 12:45 pm.
