Ricky Lamar Cushman, age 73, of Pendleton, SC, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at his home. Born January 7, 1950, in Anderson, he was a son of the late Ralph Cushman and Hazel Gurley Cushman. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Wright; and brother, David Cushman. Rick was a graduate of BHP Class of 1968, attended Tri-County Technical College and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He retired from the Oconee Nuclear Station after 35 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hiking, fly fishing, and kayaking. He had a creative mind and was a jack of all trades with the ability to build pretty much anything. In his earlier years he enjoyed coaching his sons in soccer. He was a member of the Upstate Kayak and Fishing Club, the Davidson River Fly Fishing Club, and SORBA. Rick will be remembered as a loving husband, father and friend. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rita Ladd Cushman; sons, Tyler Ladd Cushman and Adam Luke Cushman; brothers, Keith and Glenn Cushman; sister, Lissa Masters; his Boykin Spaniel, Ruby Mae; and his large loving extended family and many friends. To celebrate Rick's life, we would like to invite everyone for a short service at the house of Rita, Tyler, and Adam Cushman on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. If you feel that you would like to share a story, an adventure, memory or just say a few words in Rick's honor you are welcome to. Just come prepared to do so. We will be having a party to celebrate Rick afterwards. We will be sending luminaries and balloons up for Rick. Then we will have his favorites an oyster roast and barbecue. And of course, a bon-fire will be lit. So, bring your favorite beverage to toast Rick and a chair to sit by the fire and fellowship. We hope you can join us. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests planting a tree or flower in your yard in memory of Rick.
