ANDERSON, SC RITA JEANNETTE MASSEY Rita Jeannette Tavernier Massey, age 93, of Anderson, passed away peacefully at Rainey Hospice House on May 11, 2015, following Mother's Day visits by most of her family. Born in Moosup, CT, on August 6, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Tavernier and the late Rose Anna St. Sauvier Tavernier. For seventy-one years, she was the loving and devoted wife of the late Edward George Massey. Rita lived most of her life in Moosup and was a faithful member of All Hallows Catholic Church. She worked for many years at Griswold Rubber in Moosup but was most proud of her years volunteering at All Hallows School to assist in a number of programs and activities for the children. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the Ladies of St. Anne and the Moosup American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her three sons and their families: Michael and wife, Petra, of Anderson, SC, where Rita lived her final year; Robert and wife, Carol, of Fort Mill, SC; and Donald and wife, Debbie, of Orlando, FL. Rita was also very proud of her five grandchildren: Susan Massey Jeglinski, Tim Massey, Steve Massey, Brett Massey, and Drew Massey; and her eleven great-grandchildren: Caroline, Connor, Luke, Sarah, Josie, Eli, David, Brady, Carsyn, Joseph , and Riley, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Eddie, Rita was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice Bodo, Irene Gravelin and Cecile Bessette; and one brother, Alfred Tavernier. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at All Hallows Catholic Church in Moosup, and later at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church in Anderson on a date to be determined.
