Rita Faye Barrett Thompson, age 71, of 1603 Dunn Road, entered her Heavenly home upon her death at AnMed Health Medical Center on Tuesday, July 3, 2018. Born in Anderson on July 20, 1946, she was the daughter of the late John W. Barrett and the late Frances Smith Barrett. For fifty-two years, she was the loving and devoted wife of Larry E. "Tomp" Thompson of the residence. Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of T. L. Hanna High School in the Class of 1965, then attended Forrest College taking business related courses. For many years she was a receptionist for Dr. Haddock and later for Dr. Harmon. Rita was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church where she was very active as long as her health would permit. Her primary focus in life was on her faith and her family. In addition to her husband Larry, Mrs. Thompson is survived by two daughters, Sommer Mosteller and her husband, Douglas, of Anderson, and Anna Barrett Spraker and her husband Joshua, also of Anderson; a brother, John Barrett and his wife, Gail; four grandchildren, Douglas Mosteller, IV and his wife Sarah, AnnaLeeza Mosteller, Isabella Spraker, Caleb Spraker; a great grandson, Douglas Mosteller, V; and a special cousin, Sandra Metcalfe and husband Chester, of Anderson. The Funeral Service to honor and celebrate the life of Rita Thompson will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Jack Couch officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
