Robert Pardue Baker, age 89, of Anderson, SC, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2023 at NHC Healthcare Anderson.
Born October 29, 1934, in Gastonia, NC, he was the son of the late Paul Baker and Lucille Galloway Baker. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Matthew Baker.
Bob was a graduate of Gastonia High School and a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1952-1955 during the Korean Conflict. He was a 1962 graduate of Belmont Abbey College. In 1976, Bob along with his partner, Stuart Brown, formed Baker, Brown & Associates Insurance Agency. Their company proudly provided insurance for those in the community for 24 years before becoming The Peoples Agency in 2000 under new ownership. Bob served on the Board of Directors for the Anderson Area YMCA and also formerly served as Chairman. Even when Bob wasn't serving in those capacities, he remained active and involved in the YMCA as well as many other organizations in the community. He was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his family. He was a 50-year member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys "Jerry" Q. Baker; son, Mark R. Baker, D.M.D. (Rebecca) of Anderson, SC; daughter, Kelli Arnett (Wells) of Anderson, SC; grandchildren, Elizabeth Gunnels (Zach), Michael Baker, M.D. (Molly), Peyton Arnett, Cooper Arnett, and Reese Arnett; and great grandchildren, Bennett Gunnels and Baker Ella Gunnels.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor Josh Hunt officiating.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of NHC Healthcare Anderson for overseeing the care of "Papa".
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Anderson Area YMCA, 201 E. Reed Rd., Anderson, SC 29621, or to the charity of one's choice.
