Bernhard, 87, husband of Faye Bernhard of 300 Long Forest Circle, died Sunday, April 23, 2006 at the Hospice House in Anderson.Born in New York City, NY on March 9, 1919, Mr. Bernhard was the son of the late Jacob P. Bernhard and Isabelle Shackelton Bernhard. He resided in New York for twenty years and then Fairfield, Ct for forty years, moving to Anderson, SC in 1985. He served as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force in England and was later a Photo Recon Pilot with the United States Air Force in World War II serving in the Pacific as Captain. He was a member of the Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church having served as chairman of the official board and co-chairman of the board of trustees. He was chairman of the little league of Fairfield and was executive officer in the Air Force Reserves and a member of the 17th Photo Recon Squadron. He retired from B.P.I. Company in Shelton, CT as Vice President of manufacturing and was plant manager of the Edwards Company in Norwalk, CT. He was currently a member of the Roberts Presbyterian Church in Anderson SC where he served as an Elder. Also, he was a member of the Divver Lodge of F&AM.Survivors include his wife, Faye Bernhard of the home; son, Bruce R. Bernhard of Fairfield, CT; daughters, Bonnie L. Artell of Basking Ridge, NJ and Cynthia A. Rivers of Cheshire, CT; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.His first wife, Gloria Jane Bernhard preceded him in death. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at 4:00 pm at Roberts Presbyterian Church in Anderson officiated by the Reverend Dale Rawlings. Interment of ashes will follow in the church cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roberts Presbyterian Church, 2716 SC 187 South, Anderson, SC 29626.
