Devine, age 90, husband of Juaweice E. Devine, and resident of 503 Holly Creek Drive, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011, at his home.Born August 26, 1920, in Phlox, WI, one of eleven children of the late Frances Clark and Martin Devine; he attended schools in Wisconsin, the Ohio State University, and the University of Missouri obtaining degrees in both mining and chemical engineering. Most of his career was spent in activities related to the nuclear power industry beginning with service in the Army Corp of Engineers at the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge, TN, assigned as Project Engineer with Tennessee Eastman Corporation. Following military service he was employed in research activity at Battelle Memorial Institute, Columbus, OH, and later by Westinghouse Electric Corporation at their Bettis Plant in Pittsburgh where he was Project Engineer for the world's first commercial nuclear power plant which was built at Shippingport, PA. He later was Manager of Project Engineering for Indian Point Plants 2 and 3 which were turnkey projects by Westinghouse for Consolidated Edison of New York, the first one thousand megawatt plant licensed by the Atomic Energy Commission. The last decade of his career he was employed by the former Ebasco Services, Inc. of New York City. During this time he was located in Princeton, NJ, and engaged in the design and construction of the Fusion Test Reactor at the Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory. He was later located in their office in the World Trade Center as Project Manager of nuclear power plants. He was a licensed engineer in the states of Ohio and New Jersey and a member of the American Nuclear Society. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Kiwanis Golden 'K' Club of Anderson.Mr. Devine met and married the former Juaweice Eiland of Drew, MS, while in the United States Army at Oak Ridge. Together they have five children: Kathleen Meyer and husband, Al of Boulder, CO; Nancy Meisel and husband, Julius of Wilmington, DE; Patricia Dawson and husband, Geoff of Ashland, OR; Thomas Devine of Lakehurst, NJ; and James Devine and wife, Joanne of Hamilton, NJ; sisters: Kathleen Curry Wagner of Appleton, WI, and Elaine Rosandich of Placitas, NM; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; five brothers: Harold, Leonard, Martin, David, and Patrick; and three sisters: Dorothy Duffek, Florence Schlegel, and Charlotte Lutz. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church celebrated by The Reverend Paul Williams, OFM. The family will receive friends immediately following the Mass in the church hall. A family innichement will be held on Monday, March 28, 2011, at M.J. 'Dolly' Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Army, Fort Gordon.In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621, or to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1303 McLees Road, Anderson, SC 29621.The Devine family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staffs of Home Instead Senior Care and Hospice of the Upstate for their excellent and loving care given to Mr. Devine.THE McDOUGALD FUNERAL HOME, Anderson
