Mr. Robert B. "Bob" Funk died Friday, July 6, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty May Frazee Funk. Born on November 7, 1924 in Lincoln, Nebraska, Mr. Funk was the son of the late Bayard Cyril and Fay Elizabeth Ambrose Funk. He was raised in Los Angeles, California. Immediately after high school graduation in 1942, he enlisted in the Army. He was a Word War II veteran and served in the 20th Armored Division in the European Theater of Operations. After the war, Mr. Funk attended the California Institute of Technology, where he was the quarterback for the football team and competed in the decathlon for the track team. He received a Bachelor's Degree in 1949 and a Master's Degree in 1950. In 1992, after forty-two years of service, Mr. Funk retired from BASF in Anderson where he served as the Anderson Plant General Manager for over sixteen years. During his career, he was a Rotarian for over thirty-five years. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors of the Anderson Area Medical Center and the Anderson Operations of the Salvation Army. Further he was on the board of Anderson Interfaith Ministries and the Better Business Bureau in Greenville. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Anderson. Survivors include two sons, Paul Robert Funk of Greenville, SC, and Glenn Richard Funk and his wife, Lori of Nashville, TN; one sister, Elizabeth Fay Funk Gilpin of Salt Lake City, UT; and four grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth Funk, Mary Landon Funk, Robert B. Funk, II, and Samuel Henry Funk. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 12:30pm until 1:30pm with the funeral service to follow in the Chapel at 2:00pm. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of floral contributions, memorials may be made to the Heritage Fund of St. John's United Methodist Church, 515 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29624.
